Anthropology of Outer Space

An overview of an anthropological approach to the study of how outer space affects social relations.

Dr David (Jeeva) Jeevendrampillai is a Senior Research Fellow of Anthropology at University College London. He is funded by the European Research Council as a team member of the Ethno-ISS project he is also the director of the Centre of Outer Space Studies at UCL. His work concerns the emerging relations between people and place at the planetary scale. This includes studying novel configurations of citizenship, notions of humanity and utopian futures that are prominent in space enthusiast communities in particular in relation to the idea of the overview effect.
