Dr. Aidyl Gonzalez-Serricchio is a distinguished scientist and author with a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Developmental Biology from the renowned California Institute of Technology. Specializing in environmental microbiology and astrobiology, she explores the extremes of microbial life, studying microbiomes from Earth’s Arctic regions to lava tube caves in the Azores. Her research focuses on the adaptability of microbial life and nematodes in extraterrestrial conditions.

Aidyl’s work transcends the laboratory as she leads innovative citizen science initiatives and serves as the Director of Outreach at the International Institute of Astronautical Sciences. She is deeply committed to promoting inclusivity and innovation in STEM, advocating for educational and diversity initiatives that inspire environmental empathy and collective action.

Recently, Aidyl authored the children's book ""Gigi & Nema: Guardians of the Soil."" Based on true events from her life, this story combines Aidyl's childhood experience of attempting to grow sweet potatoes in the Bronx with ancestral tales shared by her Abuelo. The book features a protagonist named Gigi—Aidyl's family nickname—and illustrations that reflect her appearance at that young age. Aimed at empowering young minds about environmental stewardship and cultural heritage, the book serves as a powerful tool for change in classrooms and corporate environments.

Aidyl holds advisory and executive roles in several organizations, including SparkReach Leadership, iGIANT (Impact of Gender/Sex on Innovation and Novel Technologies), and STEAM Superheroes. Her holistic approach to advancing scientific exploration and societal progress is recognized globally. As a member of the Explorers Club and the esteemed class of 2024, she is celebrated among fifty people changing the world.

A NASA Solar System Ambassador and an amateur magician, Aidyl captivates audiences by blending the marvels of science with the art of enchantment, showcasing her passion for making science accessible and exciting.
