Bringing the Overview Effect to the world using Live Video from the International Space Station

Presenter: Liam Kennedy

Since 2014 NASA has provided a 24x7 live video stream from the International Space Station dedicated to showing live views of the earth. This presentation will explore everything that's possible with this resource with example clips from around the world - highlighting some of the exceptional ways these views allow people worldwide to experience the Overview Effect. This will be much more than "just" pretty pictures of the earth - as it's also a gateway to viewing major ecological issues and world events in real time.

Liam is the inventor of the ISS-Above, a single board computer device that presents a rich set of live information about the ISS including live video views of the earth. What started as a weekend project in 2013 to build a cool gizmo to inspire his own grandchildren has now been shipped to more than 4,000 locations around the world including private homes, schools and science centers. More than 300,000 students are being inspired by this little gadget across the USA alone. ISS-Above is an education partner with the ISS National Lab who support research and education related to the International Space Station.
