STEAMing Space

Dr. McPhee will talk about the power of integrating the arts into STEM and using the umbrella of space exploration and development to engage and inspire students.

Jancy McPhee is a neuroscientist and space life scientist, science communicator, and the founder and executive director of SciArt Exchange (www.SciArtExchange.org). The nonprofit offers multiple programs with global science-integrated-with-art activities to enhance space engagement and education, foster science and technology innovation, and promote collaboration to solve hard challenges in space and on Earth. The international Humans in Space Art Program encourages people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds to communicate their visions of the future of human space exploration and development through multidisciplinary art contests and tours. So far, the Program has engaged over 18,000 participants from over 68 countries, and over 4.5 million have viewed the artwork. The 2024 Sensing Deep Space: Pandora’s Cluster installation took visitors on a multi-sensory journey into deep space to interactively explore galaxies four billion light years away and increased understanding of space data and technologies. The current activity, Design Your Habitat 2.0, invites people to imagine their ideal Community in Space, and serves as a platform for collaboration and creativity across age groups, with live virtual and in person activities. McPhee also provides consulting for corporations and educational organizations. Her outside hobbies include participating in music and theater.
