Slooh: The Cosmic Classroom
Students can reach for the stars using Slooh's live online robotic telescopes network.
Learn how schools are using Slooh to integrate space and earth science education into a standards-aligned curriculum, inspiring students to learn science and prepare for careers in space.
The session will include live telescope views from Slooh's observatories in Australia and the Canary Islands, a demonstration of Slooh's gamified platform and Quest learning activities, and a walkthrough of Slooh's curriculum!
Dr. John Boisvert has been the Director of Curriculum at Slooh for half a decade, crafting immersive, curriculum-aligned astronomy and Earth science STEAM learning activities. He brings the universe to life for students by integrating real-time observations from Slooh’s robotic telescopes in the Canary Islands, Chile, and Australia, as well as imagery from the Sentinel-2 satellite constellation.
With a master’s in physics and a doctorate in astronomy from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, John’s research interests span exoplanets, galaxy dynamics, and stellar evolution. He has over a decade of experience teaching college-level physics and astronomy and is deeply fascinated by the mythological connections between humanity and the cosmos. His lifelong passion for space began in infancy, and he is dedicated to making science accessible, engaging, and fun for learners of all backgrounds.
Beyond work, John enjoys life with his wife, their newborn daughter—whom he already can’t wait to introduce to the wonders of the universe—and their small but spirited Maltipoo. Whether strategizing over card and board games, exploring nature, or experimenting in the kitchen (especially when it involves baking something delicious), he finds joy in both curiosity and creativity.
