STEAM for Space: Adventures with Space Patches

Holding a real mission patch, admiring its artistry, understanding the meaning of its design and researching STEM topics revealed by the patch creates an unforgettable learning experience! Placing a real patch into the hands of a student transforms the learning experience that triggers tactile and visual senses that sparks curiosity where the origin story of its design takes the student on a journey of discovery about a real human spaceflight and space exploration mission.

Leave with a new teaching strategy, lesson, activities and the opportunity to receive a free set of real mission patches to create an unforgettable learning experience that has lasting impact and fosters deeper engagement in STEAM.

I am a lifelong space enthusiast – collector, curator and historian of space mission patches and a storyteller of their design and the people and STEM fields involved with the missions. I founded STEAM4SPACE in 2023 to assist educators with connecting students to STEAM using the origin story of real mission patches to inspire them to pursue careers and degrees in STEAM related to human spaceflight and space exploration. I have donated 52,000+ real mission patches to over 1,200 STEAM educators in 25 countries, forming a global network of educators to promote space education worldwide.

I have over thirty years of professional experience leading the design of enterprise and consumer applications in the mobile, healthcare, financial, aviation and retail industries. I volunteer as a technical trainer for educators and students on designing and coding for the web, and I have produced/developed the website for former NASA astronaut Fred Haise and premiere space emblem artist Tim Gagnon. In addition, I partnered with Apollo 13 astronaut, Fred Haise, to facilitate education sessions that focus on the STEM involved with the Apollo 13 mission, providing the opportunity for students to interact directly with Fred Haise.
